Operating units in which wood-chips are being used; extra instructions have to be observed. Not only Kuntschar points out the quality of wood-chips that may be used in the wood gasifier, other companies, selling merely boilers, also refer to the observance of the wood-chips condition.

“Heating with wood:
the combustion of humid wood is not only uneconomic but also leads to high pollutant emissions such as tar sedimentation in the chimney due to low combustion temperatures.”
“With the aid of a hacker wood chips are being produced from scrap- and smallwood, for example from parts of a tree which aren’t suitable for timber production. They are about as big as a matchbox or packet of cigarettes. A possibly uniform dimension of the wood-chips, low moisture content and fines are conditions for an unproblematic use in the heating units.
Wood-chips should not contain contaminations like stones, metal parts or other foreign substances. For an emission poor combustion it is important to use only “good” wood, which is no waste wood or contaminated and rotten or very humid wood. The portion of bark should neither be high, as the bark increases the volume of ash. Wood in its natural state without bark generally shows only a small volume of ash of about 0,5 up to 1 percent. “
As you can see the consistence of the wood-chips plays a big role at the faultless combustion (only heat!). To obtain a motorically useable gas from wood, the wood aswell may only be first class.

In case the wood-chips do not comply with the requirments of Kuntschar Energieerzeugung respectively differ from these specifications, this will compulsorily lead to malfunction of the unit. Furthermore considerable performance deviations may arise.
